Notice to Citizens of Watonga Regarding Use of Parks

Watonga Parks are currently open to the public.  The Parks Department requests that citizens follow State of Oklahoma recommendations when using public spaces.

The Splash Pad at Huff-Lorang Park will not open on Memorial Day 2020 and will remain closed until further notice due to concerns over COVID-19.

While many Splash Pads operate on recirculating systems which are treated with chlorine or bromine to kill bacteria (CDC), Watonga’s system uses flow through water which is not treated with chlorine and will not kill bacteria.  Opening date to be determined as the City and State move through appropriate opening stages.

The City of Watonga Parks Department staff will disinfect high-touch surfaces in restrooms at least daily following CDC guidelines.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the following guidelines for use of public spaces to help the prevent the spread of COVID-19.

  1. Please continue to maintain social distancing—stay 6 feet apart
  2. Wash your hands for 20 seconds with warm water and soap
  3. Stay home if you are sick or have been exposed to COVID-19
  4. Limit gatherings to 10 people or less until guidelines are reevaluated by the State of Oklahoma
